Sell Your Rolex Daytona Watch

RolexDaytonaRolex first started manufacturing the self-winding chronograph Daytona in 1963 to meet the demands of profession race car drivers. With its highly reliable chronograph and bezel featuring a tachymetric scale, it allows drivers to perfectly measure average speeds up to 400 kilometers or miles per hour, as they choose. Carrying the attributes of a sports watch, the Daytona Cosmograph incorporates chronograph screws enabling the timepiece to check the water resistance capacity of the watch. Ensuring the visibility in the low light and dark conditions, the hands and markers of Daytona Cosmograph are provided with Superluminova coating providing clear readability. Since its release the Daytona series has featured three distinct models, the original series of Daytona watches had a four-digit model or reference number with a manual wind movement; they were in short supply until Rolex brought out a second model in 1988 featuring modified automatic winding movement and a five digit model number. The third series, introduced in 2000, featured a movement made by Rolex and is a certified self-winding chronometer, with chronograph functions and a six-digit model number. Although Rolex continues the manufacturing of new Daytona models, the original watches of this collection have become exceedingly rare.

Within each series in the Daytona Collection, there are many distinct models available. The earliest version of the Daytona feature a four-digit model number indicating they were produced between the years 1961 and 1987. Later models of the Daytona combine precious metals and diamond accents through the timepiece such as the Daytona Cosmograph 116506 featuring a platinum bracelet, with platinum bezel and lugs encompassing an ice blue dial. The Daytona Cosmograph 116520 features stainless steel and a white dial, while the Daytona Chronograph 116523 features a combination of stainless steel and yellow gold. Other models include the Daytona Cosmograph 116528 in 18K yellow gold, the Daytona Cosmograph 116509 in 18K white gold, the Daytona Cosmograph 116505 in 18K Everose Gold, and the Daytona Cosmograph with 18K Everose Gold along a black leather strap.

CosmoThe Daytona Cosmograph features engraved bezel which functions as a tachymeter scale by measuring elapsed time over a given distance. It can be used to compute a speed based on travel time or measure distance based on speed. Combine with the chronograph function of the watch, the tachymeter scale provides a perfect instrument for measuring speeds up to 400 units per hour, whether expressed in kilometers or miles. More recent models of the Daytona however, can either feature tachymeter bezel or Cera Chrom bezel which is manufactured from an extremely hard ceramic substance that has excellent anti-corrosion properties while keeping the vibrant colors of the bezel from fading over time. They are virtually scratch proof and are unaffected by exposure to sunlight as well as to chlorinated or sea water.

The Daytona Cosmograph can feature either an 18K Gold and/or Stainless Steel Oyster Bracelet or a black, or mocha leather strap.  The Oyster bracelet was first introduced in the late 1930s, this particularly robust and comfortable metal bracelet with its broad, flat three-piece links remains the most universal bracelet in the Oyster collection.  The Oyster band of the Daytona collection also features a patented easy-link extension system clasp that lets the wearer increase the bracelet length by about 5 mm to regain maximum comfort. Perfectly integrated into the watch’s design and hidden beneath the clasp, the Easylink system’s opening and closing mechanism is tested thousands of times in the most extreme conditions to guarantee reliability.

The Rolex Daytona was inspired by race car drivers and enthusiasts, most notably, iconic actor Paul Newman, who reportedly wore his Daytona every day from 1972 until his death in 2008. The rarest of the Daytona Collection are those with what has been called the “Paul Newman” dial. It is said that Newman wore one of these watches, given to him by his wife Joanna Woodward when he took up automobile racing.
